Match Report

With milestones for Dings stalwarts, Charlie Taylor and 250 caps, Jake Holcombe’s 200, it was a fitting end to the season in many ways.
Holcombe crashed over from a driving Maul within 5 minutes to start building his hat-trick, one of several through the 80 minutes ahead.
Despite Cambornes best efforts, with a few glimmers of hope in the first half, they were thwarted at every turn. Players of note for the cherry and whites came in the form of Jack Davis and Jack Kessell out on the wings. William Tanswell at 9 shifted ball after ball, but with no return.
Although the frustration was evident Camborne didn’t stop. The pack held firm and wanted more, and towards the end of the game, the work nearly paid off, only to be rejected by Dings dogged defence once again.
This try-fest, although started by Player of the Match Holcombe, it was the backs that set fire to the scoreboard. Solomon Taufa crossed with his trademark somersaulting try after 6 then 11 minutes with a third later. George Boulton crossed the paint at 20 minutes to start his treble. Ever dependable Hawkesby chalked one up for the forwards, then Tom Hargan, who also featured later from the tee, as regular Fly Half Jacob Perry was replaced in the second half.
Ezra Caven joined from the bench after 47 minutes, replacing Hargan, and within a couple of minutes he was tearing up the wing to score the first of 3 most notably after a huge clearance kick and a footrace, coming from behind the Camborne backs to ground the ball.
Jimmy Halliwell and Matt Lane got their names on the scoresheet, the latter could have had more, and with Oscar Lennon popping up to convert a few too.
Speaking after the game, drinking from the silverware, when asked how he was feeling, captain Matt Smith said, “It’s an incredible feeling, I think winning with a score line like today solidifies how far the team has come especially with the dodgy start to the season and a 21 game unbeaten run.
“It comes down to the boys all working hard together. There are no individuals in this team, we have come together, those on and off the field today, as a strong Dings community that all want to work for the team and each other.
“There have been a few celebrations already this year, some key moments. When we played Loughborough away and Luctonians lost, it felt like the tables had turned, then beating Redruth a couple of weeks ago, we had a great celebration then as we took the league, but with the crowd like we have today and the atmosphere around the ground, this truly is a special day for the club and the rugby community.”
