Match Report by Baz Johnson The Rugby Paper

DINGS Crusaders marked captain Matt Smith's 150th appearance for the club with a convincing win over the disappointing Hornets.
Dings started furiously, with Chris Rovery and Buster Lawrence carrying well through the centre, and creating far more opportunities for Dings than they were able to exploit.
Harry Hone and George Boulton should also be highlighted as creating further opportunities.
Hornets finally relented after the 18th minute mark, giving away three penalties in succession to a strong Dings line-out, which resulted in a team try, with hooker Joe Hawkesby downing the ball over the visitors line.
But Hornets backline remained solid, with notably impressive wing Donald Farmer making some big tackles in the wide channel.
21 minutes in, and after 15 phases on the Hornets line, Boulton jinked and stepped, creating a gap to allow Hawkesby through unchallenged for his and Dings second.
Hornets continued to suffer from the penalty count, and referee Peter Buchanan ran out of patience just before half-time, when
Jonathan Roberts was sent to the bin.

The visitors showed some hope following the break, finding themselves with a 10m lineout, and despite Dings stalwart Harry Casson expertly reading the play, burrowing his way to the ball carrier to disrupt their set piece, the hosts line defence was tested with phase after phase, until ultimately succumbing as Sam Taylor got Hornets on the board with a short range drive.
Casson featured again as he pressured the Hornets in goal area, and forcing a knock-on, which proved to be the catalyst of a sustained period of enthralling running with both sides keen to carry, which ended in Boulton putting Dings 10 metres out with a solid 50/22.

From the set piece, Boulton cut through to just short of the posts, but quick ball through the hands to Sol Taufa saw the winger acrobatically taking the ball over in the 61st minute.
Dings then began haemorrhaging penalties, with Buster Lawrence seeing red with seven minutes to go, before Boulton was sent to the bin minutes later.
With 13 on the field and penalties coming thick and fast, Dings did well to hold on against sustained Hornets pressure, seeing the game out with a steal at the death.
Dings director of Rugby Stean Williams reflected after the game: "We certainly aren't the finished article, and we haven't had the results we wanted in the last couple of weeks, but we are building and moving forward with every game".
