Hi all.
Just a quick heads up regarding the senior fixture on Boxing Day.
For those of you that aren’t aware, there has been a long history between Dings and Ashley Down, owing to their geographic location before Dings moved to Shaftesbury Park.
On Boxing Day, Dings would always play Ashley Down, but on the 26th December 1999, after the game, Ashley Downs Robbie “the Viking” Johnson was tragically killed in a road traffic accident.
The Boxing Day fixture is now played as the Robbie Johnson Memorial Match and for the Viking helmet trophy, currently in the trophy cabinet at Shaftesbury Park.
This Boxing Day, it would be great to see as many of the Dings family at Ashley Down to support as possible.
Kick off is at midday.
It would also be nice to hand that history down to our younger players so they understand where the roots of this club lie, and to try and preserve some the traditions of the club for the future generations.
Wishing you all a very happy Christmas.
UTD!
