With Harry slightly delayed today, and my camera settings wrong (too much to do), coupled with a flat battery and really ugly weather conditions, you'll have to wait until later for our regular 10 of the best.
With that said and done, what a result yesterday from our Crusaders.
Here is my match report:
Dings Crusaders 77 Newport Salop 12.
Under a misty sky and in a chilly Shaftesbury Park, Dings turned up the heat.
Wary of Newport and last seasons battles, Dings were out of the blocks quickly, pinning the visitors back with a driving maul and Joe Hawkesby dropping down in under 2 minutes. This was a sign of the try-fest to come.
Newport came to the Crusaders home with electric pace on the wings and at the back. Notably George Castledine, Charlie Gamble and Timoci Waqadau, but getting the ball past the Dings defence was a rare occurrence in this one-sided affair.
The powerful centre pairing of Dings captain Matt Smith and ever dependable George Boulton, seemed to be creating magic all over the park.
The hands and expert delivery of 9, Murdoch Lock, and through Jacob Perrys boot, all finding their way onto the score card, working off of a solid pack, who’s discipline was superb throughout the fixture.
Harry Casson, ever the orchestrator in the front was relentless in defence, linking with fellow forwards, the scoring Will Thompson, Tomos Gwilliam and Matt Lane with 10 points of his own.
Josh Lloyd and Charlie Taylor adding their dominance to a substantial scrummaging team.
This, coupled with the gasp inducing Ciaran Donoghue and his line breaks, and Tom Hargans incredible run in to score late in the game, were only dampened by some well worked tries for Newports unconverted Jack Neal and Ethan Harley (Conv. Connor Adams).
11 tries for Dings, all converted successfully by Perry and Donoghue, but
despite the result, Newport never dropped their heads and played to the end.
