Redruth 15
Dings Crusaders 0
By Bill Hooper (The Rugby Paper).
A MUCH-CHANGED Redruth side were made to battle hard for their win by a determined Dings Crusaders. It wasn't a classic Redruth performance, but given the upheaval due to injuries, a win and no points conceded must be viewed as a great result.
Redruth opened the scoring with a sweetly struck penalty from full-back Will Trewin. Trewin then showed his defensive qualities with a superb try-saving tackle to deny the visitors. Despite some good periods of possession, the Reds couldn't add to their tally until midway through the first-half. They got an unconverted try from a set play through on-loan scrum-half Greg Goodfellow, who was making a welcome return to the Rec.
Dings then enjoyed a purple patch, but could not turn it into points thanks to some great defence by the Reds. Just before half-time, Redruth bagged their second try from a catch-and-drive, with hooker Richard Brown driven over. Trewin was once again on the money with a well-judged conversion to give Redruth a 15-0 lead at the break.
Conditions became more difficult in the second-half and the game became a dour arm wrestle with no further points added to either tally.
