Getting to know Ed Hack

Getting to know Ed Hack

Dings Lad17 Dec 2013 - 11:52

Welcome to the second addition of Getting To Know. It’s a chance to get to know some of the players, legends, characters and old farts of Dings.

And who better to get to know than current 1st XV captain (Yes, ok Ed ok Ed I haven’t forgotten) and current Somerset captain.

Getting to know: Mr Edward Hack

Name: Ed Hack

Nicknames: Hacky

Position: Back row, but pushed up into the 2nd row

Previous clubs: Bath, Manchester, little 3 game spell at Newbury

Representative Honours: Gloucestershire Junior levels, U20s, South West U21, Somerset

How did you come to join Dings Crusaders: I knew quite a few of the players at the time and I liked what the club was about, playing at a high level whilst still being a proper rugby club

Worst rugby moment: Most recent would have to be Combo Cup Final, to beat some of the sides we did in the league that we did that season and then to put in a performance like we did in the final was a bit disappointing

Best rugby moment? There have been many over the years, to mention one would be difficult.

Toughest opponent: Aki Lea in the first couple of seasons Shelford came into the league, and Launceston's Ben Hilton.

Toughest team: Jersey away was a very tough game, but Lydney away was probably the toughest games of the season as they were very similar to us and more often than not both sides were desperate for points at the lower end of the table so you knew you had to prepare yourself for a physical battle which both sides loved.

Favourite away ground: Love playing at the REAL rugby clubs like Lydney and the Cornish sides Redruth and Launceston. Always a big crowd and always a good test physically and mentally.

Funniest coach trip memory: Probably on our trip to Worthing and as we were pulling into the services when the driver got a little too close to a tree, next thing the window smashes and me Alex Dancer and Adam Bellamy are sharing the table with the branch of the tree. Not quite so funny when we arrived 10 minutes before kick off.

Favourite Dings player to play along side and why: Orlando Stott, made everything look easy. Always beat the first couple of defenders. Would loved to have seen him play the season we had signed Mitch, Coxy, Sheldon and Pierre tucker.

Dings player(s) you would have liked to have played rugby with/with more: Pierre Pannizutti, Top player, very physical and top bloke. Gave 100% in the 2 years he was here both on and off the field. Legend!

What sport would you be doing if you weren’t playing rugby: I would probably try Jiu Jitsu or something; my best mate does it and can’t say enough about it.

Well thank you Ed we all know you a little better

Keep an eye out for the next edition as you never know who it might be
