It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our beloved Jeanette Austin, who left us on Sunday, 5th January 2025, at the age of 75.
Jeanette’s connection with the Dings began when she was around 18. She would attend parties at the club with friends from Lockleaze school, many of whom also played for the Dings rugby club. Little did she know, Jim Austin had been admiring her from afar. They formally met at a mutual friend’s party, and from that moment, they were inseparable.
Jeanette always supported Jim’s passion for the Dings. While she enjoyed a little peace and quiet when he watched the match on Saturday afternoons, she also loved the club’s social side. Meals, dances, and weekends away with close friends—fondly known as “the swingers”—were among the highlights of her life.
Many of you will remember Jeanette from school, the club, or simply by her warm smile and easy way of chatting to anyone. She was always there to support her son, Dan, and more recently, she took great pride in supporting her grandson, Reuben, in the juniors.
Jeanette leaves behind her devoted husband, Jim, children Dan and Gem, daughter-in-law Laura, son-in-law Mark, and her treasured grandchildren Kris, Livi, Chloe, Sophia, and Reuben. She will also be fondly remembered by her extended family in Bristol, Brean, and Barbados.
Jeanette was truly beautiful inside and out. Her warmth, kindness, and love for everyone she met made her unforgettable. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral will take place at St Michaels Church, Winterbourne on 6 February at 11am.
All who were lucky enough to have known Jeanette are welcome to celebrate her life at Shaftesbury Park following a private, family only internment.
Charity donations in lieu of flowers are welcome to Mind.
