It is with a Deep & Heavy Heart that I have to inform the Members Old and New of the passing of A true Dings Legend , John Thorne , who sadly lost his battle on Tuesday Evening @18.00pm at Home with his family around him as he wished .
A Man held in such esteem by all his fellow players and all who met him,, either as a player where he played as a Number 8 and then a move to the Front row was where really found his true vocation , terrorising many a opposition scrum , with his fierce and all powering strength , he also found time to ensure the Landseer avenue ground was kept in a working condition
On His Playing Retirement he then took the mantle of Chairman of Selectors , where he carried this office with all the Honour and Strength he had in abundance , and his regular support on a matchday right up until he was far too il , meant that everyone involved would get to know who John Thorne was
Im afraid , as I write this piece to try and encapsulate what John Thorne meant to Dings Rugby is beyond me with simple words not being able to show the loss and what it means to all that knew and met him and Personally ive lost a dear Friend , just as all of you Nut-truckers will also be feeling a true sense of loss
At This time , please give the His Wife Mary & the family the time and space they request
The funeral service for John Thorne will be held at the Dings RFC on Saturday 21st July at 11.00am
Everyone is welcome. Following the service there will be a private family cremation at Westerleigh Crematorium.
All are invited to stay at the club to share memories of John and the family will join us when they return from the crematorium.
The family have requested that there be family floral tributes only but invite you to place a donation in memory of John in aid of Marie Curie nurses in the donation box provided.
Rest In Peace John ,
Steve Lloyd
