Dings Crusaders 35 Sedgley Tigers 3
Director of Rugby Stean Williams had rung the changes for the home side and it was going to be an interesting match up.
The Tigers having nilled 4th placed Rosslyn Park just before Christmas taking 5 points, despite being below Dings in the table, they certainly are a force to be reckoned with.
The Tigers opened with a superb 50/22 within 2 minutes through Warren Seals, with the following penalty, he capitalised by opening the scoreboard with 3 points which were to be their only points of the game.
Undaunted from the restart, Dings applied the pressure and Joe Jenkins pops through for an easy run in to score out wide. Sam Worsley hit the target and was 100% from the tee all game.
The visitors didn’t seem to be able to get hands on the ball, and a 5m penalty led to a tap and go run in finished off by Aaron Tull.
Despite the final scoreline, the second half was a different story. Dings playing much of the half with 14 owing to yellow cards for Tomas Gwilliam and Tom Sims. Tigers with all of the ball played through the hands in endless attack, but they were just short of the whitewash on several occasions.
Impressive Tiger Lewis Bradley made some strong carries and seemed a dead cert to be in but for the athletic try saving tackle from Pat Zindi. Seals also carried well through the midfield, but whichever way he twisted or turned, he was thwarted by a dogged Dings defence.
With most of the possession, even when kicking ball from hand the visitors pushed the home defence, but it was Deago Baileys line break at 50m and pop to Ollie Smith that broke the deadlock, followed moments later by Matt Bennetts stunning breakthrough carry releasing Jenkins for his bonus point second try.
The last word was that of Worsley and a darting run sealing the game with a 5th try finishing 35-3.
