Oggy Man Retained

Oggy Man Retained

Commercial Dings25 Feb 2019 - 10:54

Crusaders' young guns do the business at Avonmouth...

DINGS colts out-scored their Avonmouth counterparts four-tries to nil at Barracks Lane on Friday night to retain the Oggy Man. The home side came out all guns blazing and put Dings under tremendous pressure from the get-go. But Jake Baker's team defended magnificently to prevent a very good Avonmouth team from registering a point.

And when Dings did have possession they made the most of it, with Baker, Lewis Bullock, Gage Whittingham-Slade and Finn Butler all crossing the whitewash for the royal blue & blacks. Lewis Mills and Will Redwood added two conversions apiece to put the icing on the cake for the Frenchay-based side.

The result mean that Dings will continue to take centre stage behind the bar at Shaftesbury Park for the time being. Avonmouth last held the trophy after seeing off their great rivals 14-0 in the 2010 combination Cup final at the Memorial Ground. But Oggy was won back in 2013 after 14-man Dings battled past Mouth at Landseer Avenue in the semi-final of the cup, and he's been with Crusaders ever since.

As the senior sides no longer play each other, it was decided to keep the tradition going by allowing the clubs' eldest age group a chance to be part of history and contest the trophy.
