Robert (Bob) Hesford 1953-2023
Its my Deepest Regret to have to inform you that Our Esteemed former Coach, Bob Hesford, passed away in the early Hours of Thursday 3rd August 2023.
All of you will, I hope remember in that way he would have wanted, a Cheeky-Chappie smile even when all appeared to be against him and the team.
Robert ( Bob ) Hesford was born on the 26th March 1951 and came from a very sporting family.
Bob Hesford arrived as Head Coach around 1999, With his good friend Jerry Westlake instrumental in getting Bob to accept my Invitation to become head coach of Dings Crusaders and within 1 year Bob had worked his magic securing the South West 2 League title at his first attempt.
Following this with a losing play off against Basingstoke the following Season, and given that Bob then marshalled his team the following season, winning South West 1 Outright and Entering the Club into the much vaunted National League, quite an achievement for a side from a small District of Bristol, and a fact I know Bob was very of proud of.
Bob stood down from the head Coach Role after some 5 Seasons, but continued to be associated with the Club right up until his untimely death.
There is no doubt Bob Hesford`s legacy, quite rightly, should and will be remembered by all who he coached and/or shared his stories with.
He was truly an effervescent person to be around, even when we took some fearful hidings, that 1st season he never lost faith in his charges, even giving a young Second Row by the Dave Attwood his First Senior Game down in Cornwall V Redruth when still only 17 Years of age!
Personally I will miss him.
He was very proud not only of his association with the club, but also, following the clubs move to Shaftesbury Park in 2018, I believe he knew his legacy would last for many more years to come.
He leaves a club all the better for having him around.
The Club would like to extend its fullest sympathies to Tina and all their family members at this extremely sad time .
Any Further Details will be shared once known
