It is my extremely sad duty to inform all members past and present of the sad and untimely passing of Peter John Boyes, who sadly passed away last Thursday.
Peter was a valuable member of the club, joining in 1986 making 655 appearances, some record on its own merits but with this also comes the fact that Peter played in every position on the field from Full back to Prop. He was a skilful player and I suppose his longevity was down to his early years of practising Judo & Other Martial Arts.
He made those appearances over 28 seasons, only missing handfuls of games when injured, which was not very often, a quiet unassuming man off the pitch and a true Gentleman when on the pitch. Many players have already made comment as to what a genuine and nice bloke he was to be around. Peter scored a total of 274 points in that period and was awarded his Club cap in 1997 playing his last game for the club in 2014.
During this time at the club, Peter took on the unenviable task of converting Bob Beynons playing records and creating a new stats web site that I know all members still use to read up on, this was some task with Bobs records going way back to the earliest of dates
The last few years were unkind to Peter and he suffered pain in great dignity but he always came back to the club when health allowed him to, even watching his grandchildren playing in the Junior Section on a Sunday morning. He was the definition of the Quiet man, and was always the last to leave on a late night Annual Dinner .
Peter will be missed by all that knew him, and the club extends its warmest condolences to Denise, John, Sarah, Mark & Chloe on their sad and untimely loss.
The funeral is arranged for Monday 16th February at 2.30pm, at Forest of Dean Crematorium. Wake after at The Rising Sun at Woolaston.
The crematorium is strict on people arriving, it’s not the biggest. They have said people can only arrive from 2.15pm so it might be an idea for anyone wanting to attend meeting at the club and car sharing.
There is a tribute page being set up for Pete: https://peterjohnboyes.muchloved.com/
