Back in the 2001 season, this was the group that set the wheels in motion—laying the foundations for the dizzy heights of National 1 we enjoy today (and no doubt still reminding everyone about it at every opportunity!).
In Bob Hesford’s first season in charge, they powered their way to promotion into South West One, navigating some seriously tough contests against the likes of St Austell, Camborne, Stroud, Matson and Brixham—proper rugby trips!
As for the rugby? Officially, it was described as “scintillating”—coast to coast, ball in hand, running it from anywhere.
Unofficially? Let’s be honest… this was a team of absolute hard-nosed grafters who’d rather go through you than around you.
Whatever way you dress it up, they got the job done—and started something pretty special…
