Hornets 14 Dings 24
Against a lively abrasive Hornets side Dings had to dig deep in the second half to secure their seventh win on the bounce. A nightmare first half saw them get on the wrong side of referee Owen Venables to concede a massive raft of penalties; two yellow cards and a penalty try to trail 13-14 at halftime.
Dings were first on the scoreboard with a Steve Plummer penalty on five minutes and the home side hit back on fifteen minutes with a try for standoff Sean Disney after a quick tap penalty from scrum half Ben Fry caught Dings defence napping, wing Charlie Carter added the conversion.
Dings regained the lead five minutes later when Plummer darted over in the corner after a series of phases on the Hornets try line, the conversion saw Dings take the lead 10-7.
The second quarter saw Dings penalised out of the game and reduced to thirteen with yellow cards in quick succession for centre Marcus Brooker and No8 Michele Canuilli. After some resolute defence Dings depleted numbers eventually cucumber to a penalty try from a five metre scrum converted by Carter with Plummer adding a penalty for Dings on the stroke of halftime for 14-13 to the home side.
Within five minutes of the restart Dings were back in front with a try from wing Jack Scott after a fine break from skipper Stean Williams and a neat offload from standoff Ben Bolster.
Two more penalties from Plummer to take his personal tally to nineteen rounded off the scoring and a hard fought victory for Dings.
